Our Lady of the Rockies

We have a 90 foot statue that overlooks the town of Butte called "Our Lady of the Rockies". She was the idea or rather promise of a local man that had a very sick wife many years ago. She was sick and dying and he prayed to God asking that his wife please be saved. If He answered his prayer, he would build a statue dedicated to all mothers around the world. Well, the mans wife was cured, and so he stayed true to his promise. Behold Our Lady of the Rockies. They run tours up to see her every summer. While Aunt Tina was here, we took the van up the mountain to see her. An older gentleman that was acutually a worker while she was being built gave the tour. It was a bumpy ride (ouch 8 1/2 months pregnant!) but worth it! She is huge up close!!!!

The back of her opens up and inside is amazing! It is adorned with notes and pictures paying homage to loved ones that have passed.
There is an crazy amount of Rosary Beads that hang up in the beams. It is something to see for sure! We actually have a bullseye view of the Lady from our bedroom window. She looks so small perched up on the mountain. I am glad we got to check her out up close!
